Dyson Air Quality Sensor Problem: How to fix air quality sensor

The Dyson Pure Cool combines an air purifier, fan (a desktop or tabletop model too), and air quality sensor. So how did you fix that irritating Dyson air quality sensor problem? For a quick fix, check out this helpful guide.

The sensor used to monitor air quality continuously where it has been placed is astonishingly accurate.

Why Was My Air Quality Sensor Not Working?

A Dyson sensor malfunction occurs when the sensor (or circular amplifier in some cases) becomes blocked. Dust is one of the most common causes of sensor failures. Because of this, the issue is quickly solved by cleaning the sensor (and the amp).

What is Dyson pure cool air quality sensor 999 problem?

The Dyson air quality sensor 999 problem is primarily resolved by simply clean Dyson air purifier sensor. When you notice that your fan has turned on, PM2 is showing.

So you don’t need to panic if your sensor reports levels of PM10 and PM5, which could indicate that your air is filthy, but rather it is clogged.

Tiny particles of dust, or particulates (PM), can irritate the respiratory system and trigger asthma attacks.

The sensors in Dyson distinguish between small (PM2.5) and large (PM10) particles, and each is given a reading.

How to fix a Dyson Air Quality Sensor Error

As I discuss sensor-related problems, I discuss some possible solutions

First Step: Sensor Location

The sensors are located behind the cutouts of all Dyson purifying fans. In most cases, if you look at the front of the fan and then turn it around, you’ll find the sensors at the back.

Based on the model, some Dyson Pure Cool fans have the cutouts on the right side. In addition, some models have holes in different places.

Second Step: Cleaning of Dyson air purifier sensor

First, turn off your fan by unplugging it. Then you can start cleaning it. Before you use the fan, I recommend giving it a good cleaning. I cleaned around the ports and over the perforated filter enclosure utilizing the vacuum cleaner’s dusting brush.

Quick Guide:

We recommend vacuuming at the front of the Dyson grill, around the controls, and around the central fan head as well. The fan can also be cleaned with a damp microfiber cloth. It would be best to clean around the sensor ports, but don’t put anything through them.

Third StepUsing A Vacuum Remove The Dust Partials

Next, you must vacuum out the sensor and remove any dirt from its insides. You can do this by using a vacuum cleaner with the correct attachment to cover the ports.

Then I turned the vacuum cleaner’s Turbo setting, making sure I had the best deal possible,

A Helpful Tip

I would suggest you get a friend to help you seal the air gaps around the nozzle. Repeat this for any other sensor ports you have, giving each one a good 10 seconds or so.

Step Four: Dusting Can Be Done Using A Dusting Brush (dry):

A dry brush provides a range of cleaning functions and can be used for the procedure as well. First, you need to brush the holes out (push the brush into the openings as you clean). Then, any dust should be eliminated instantly with an over sized brush.

Fifth Step: Restart Your Fan

Reconnect the fan, then switch it on. Your air level sensor will start taking accurate readings within seconds, and your fan should now show air levels returning to normal. At the very least, you will not have a severe reading, and PM levels should gradually drop as the fan runs.

Sixth Step: Power The Device Back On

Restart it and allow it to work usually. If you have done this correctly, the severity reading should instantly drop from 999 to an accurate reading.

Here are some helpful tips for Dyson’s air quality sensor

Cleaning The Filter As Necessary:

Sometimes cleaning the filter is needed to solve the problem. The filter should be removed and then vacuumed. Check to see if the air quality sensor working again after reinstalling it.

Try Hard To Breathe:

You may still have problems if the area was not cleaned properly. Turn it off again, then blow really hard compressed air into the slits. By using this method, the dirt trapped inside will be easily removed.

Perform A Hard Reset

If that does not work, you may need to reset the unit and then blow it into one of the sensor holes.

Following are the steps for performing a hard reset:

  • Take the power cord out of the machine.
  • Reinstall the power cord while holding the power button on the device.
  • Wait until the display screen starts to flash before releasing the power button.
  • PM still occurs at a Severe level,

Follow the steps above again to make sure you’ve removed everything. In case none of these work, you probably need to call Dyson customer support via phone.
